How to Play Stackdown
Like Mahjong Solitaire, tiles are stacked in layers on the board. Only tiles on the top layer are playable. Scan the diamond-shaped stack to see which letter tiles are currently exposed.
Tap an exposed tile to move it into the word slots below. Removing a tile may uncover new tiles underneath.
Unlike other word games, there is exactly one valid word at each stage. Fill all 5 slots with the right letters in the right order.
Tap any letter in the word slots to return it — and all tiles placed after it — back to the stack.
If all 5 slots are filled but the word is incorrect, the tiles automatically fly back.
Stuck? Slide the hint slider at the bottom to progressively reveal clues for the current word.
Find all 6 hidden words to clear every tile and complete the puzzle. See your time, star rating, and streak — then share your results with friends!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Stackdown?
Stackdown is a free daily word game that combines the stacked-tile mechanic of Mahjong Solitaire with word puzzles. Letter tiles are layered in a diamond formation, and only exposed (uncovered) tiles can be tapped. Your goal is to spell hidden 5-letter words from the available tiles, clearing them layer by layer until the entire stack is solved.
How many words do I need to find?
Each Stackdown puzzle contains 6 hidden 5-letter words. You need to find all of them to complete the puzzle and clear the entire stack.
What does "exposed" mean?
An exposed tile is one that is not covered by any tile on a higher layer. Only exposed tiles can be tapped. When you remove tiles by finding a word, new tiles underneath may become exposed.
What happens if I pick the wrong tiles?
If you fill all 5 slots and the word is incorrect, the tiles will automatically fly back to the stack. You can also tap a tile in the word slots to undo it (and all tiles placed after it) before all 5 slots are filled.
How does the star rating work?
Your star rating depends on how many hints you use. Using 0 hints earns 5 stars, 1 hint earns 4 stars, and so on. Try to solve the puzzle without hints for the best score!
How does the streak work?
Your streak counts how many consecutive days you've completed the Stackdown puzzle. Complete today's puzzle to keep your streak going! Miss a day and it resets to zero.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes! A new Stackdown puzzle is available every day. Come back daily for a fresh challenge and to maintain your streak.
Can I share my results?
Absolutely! After completing a puzzle, you can share your results including your star rating, completion time, and streak. Challenge your friends to beat your score!
