Squaredle Waffle
A unique blend of Waffle's crossword grid and Squaredle's word-finding gameplay. Find all words by connecting adjacent letters in a 5×5 Waffle-style grid!
How to Play Squaredle Waffle
What is Squaredle Waffle?
Squaredle Waffle is a unique puzzle game that combines two popular word games:
Waffle
Provides the 5×5 crossword-style grid with 4 hidden corner cells, creating a distinctive waffle shape.
Squaredle
Provides the gameplay: connect adjacent letters to form words by dragging across the grid.
Important: Unlike traditional Waffle where you swap letters to solve a crossword, in Squaredle Waffle you find words by connecting letters, just like in Squaredle.
Part 1: The Waffle Grid
The grid is a 5×5 Waffle-style layout with 4 hidden corner cells:
21 playable cells: All the colored cells with letters can be used
4 hidden cells: The gray dashed cells in the corners are blocked and cannot be used in any word
Grid shape: This creates the distinctive "waffle" shape that gives the game its name
Part 2: Squaredle Gameplay
Now we apply Squaredle's rules to find words in this grid:
Goal: Find all possible words by connecting adjacent letters
Minimum length: Words must be at least 4 letters long
Adjacency: Letters must touch horizontally, vertically, or diagonally
No reuse: Each letter can only be used once per word
Path: Drag from one letter to adjacent letters to form a continuous path
Controls:
Desktop (Mouse)
- 1. Click and hold any letter
- 2. Drag to adjacent letters
- 3. A line shows your path
- 4. Release to submit the word
Mobile (Touch)
- 1. Touch and hold any letter
- 2. Drag to adjacent letters
- 3. Letters highlight as you drag
- 4. Lift finger to submit
Complete Examples
Let's see how to find words in our example grid. We'll use the same 5×5 Waffle grid throughout:
Example 1: Finding "AMID" (4 letters, horizontal)
Path: A → M → I → D (all horizontal, all adjacent)
Example 2: Finding "TYPING" (6 letters, horizontal + diagonal)
Path: T → Y → P → I → N → G (straight horizontal row)
Example 3: Finding "AMEN" (4 letters, vertical)
Path: A → N → T → I (straight vertical column, but skips the hidden cell)
Example 4: Finding "CORDS" (5 letters, horizontal)
Path: C → O → R → D → S (bottom horizontal row)
Example 5: Finding "CORE" (4 letters, mixed path)
Path: C → O → R (horizontal) → E (vertical upward) - showing mixed directions
Understanding the Hidden Cells
The 4 hidden corner cells are crucial to understand:
What you CANNOT do:
- Use the hidden cells as part of any word path
- Connect letters that are only touching via hidden cells
- Skip over hidden cells to reach non-adjacent letters
What you CAN do:
- Connect letters around the hidden cells (like A-N-T-I vertically)
- Use diagonal connections to bypass hidden cells
- Form words in the center cross area where no hidden cells exist
Tips and Strategies
For Beginners
- Start with the horizontal and vertical crossword words (like AMID, TYPING, CORDS)
- The center cross (rows 1, 3, 5 and columns 1, 3, 5) often contains obvious words
- Look for 4-letter words first - they're easier to spot
- Common word endings: -ING, -ED, -ER, -LY
- Common prefixes: UN-, RE-, DE-
Advanced Strategies
- Use diagonal connections to create longer, more complex words
- Try the same letters in different paths - you might find multiple words
- Center cells (I, Y, I, E in our example) can connect in 8 directions
- Bonus words are typically 7+ letters and use creative paths
- Check both forward and backward spellings
Progress Tracking
Words are organized by length (4-letter, 5-letter, etc.) in the sidebar. Try to find all words in each category for 100% completion!
