About Wordle
The story behind the word puzzle that took the world by storm
The Story Behind Wordle
Wordle was created by Josh Wardle, a software engineer from Brooklyn, as a gift for his partner who loved word games. Originally launched in October 2021, it started with just 90 players.
The game's viral success was unprecedented. By January 2022, millions of people were playing daily, sharing their colorful grid results on social media. The New York Times acquired Wordle for an undisclosed seven-figure sum in February 2022.
What made Wordle special was its simplicity: one puzzle per day, six attempts, and the social aspect of sharing results without spoiling the answer.

How to Play Wordle
Master the art of word guessing with these simple rules
The Rules
1 Guess the Word
You have 6 attempts to guess a 5-letter word. Each guess must be a valid English word.
2 Submit Your Guess
Type your guess and press ENTER to submit. The tiles will change colors to give you clues.
3 Read the Clues
Use the color feedback to refine your next guess. Each color tells you something different.
4 Keep Guessing
Continue making guesses based on the feedback until you solve the puzzle or run out of attempts.
Understanding the Colors
Green - Correct Letter, Correct Position
The letter W is in the word and in the correct spot. Keep it there!
Yellow - Correct Letter, Wrong Position
The letter O is in the word but in the wrong position. Try it elsewhere!
Gray - Letter Not in Word
The letter R is not in the word at all. Don't use it again!
Try It Yourself - Example Game
Here's an example of how a typical Wordle game might look. Let's say the word is "WORLD":
Guess 1: AUDIO
The O is in the word but wrong position!
Guess 2: STORY
R is correct! O is still in wrong position.
Guess 3: WORLD
🎉 Perfect! You got it in 3 tries!
Strategy tip: Notice how each guess provided valuable information to narrow down the possibilities!
Winning Strategies

Smart Starting Words
Choose words with common vowels and consonants like ARISE, AUDIO, or STARE.

Think Patterns
Consider common letter patterns and word endings like -ING, -ED, or -LY when making guesses.
Daily Practice
Play regularly to build your vocabulary and pattern recognition skills. Every puzzle teaches you something new!
Balance Risk & Reward
Sometimes it's worth using a guess to gather information rather than trying to solve immediately.
