• What are the rules of Squaredle?

  The main objective of the game is to find hidden words in a 4x4 letter grid. You need to connect adjacent letters to form valid words. Words can be formed horizontally, vertically, diagonally, or even in curved patterns, as long as the letters are connected.
  You will typically find more than one word, and they can range from 4 to over 10 letters in length.

• Where is the best place to start the game?

  At the start of the game, you can begin searching for words from any letter that could serve as the beginning of a word.

• Which dictionary do you use?

  Squaredle uses a carefully curated dictionary so that only genuine words count towards your score. For the British English version, we draw on the Letterpress word database, which includes thousands of commonly recognised words and follows British spelling conventions. As we add support for more languages, we select dictionaries that best match each language's native vocabulary and usage.

• Why do I see the message 'Word not found'?

  This message appears when the word you've entered isn't recognised in our database. Squaredle sticks to a strict word list to keep things fair, so proper nouns, abbreviations, and very obscure words may not be included. • Is a hidden word incorrect? Can it be fixed?

• How can I change a selected letter?

  If you connect the wrong letter by accident, don't worry — simply release your selection and start again. There's no penalty for changing your mind, so take your time to work out the best possible word.

• Can I download Squaredle?

  Yes. Squaredle is available as a free native app for iOS on the App Store and for Android on Google Play, alongside the web version at squaredle.me. The app gives you the same daily puzzle as the website, so you can switch between your phone and browser without losing track of which puzzle number you're on. Both versions are free to download and play, with no account required to get started.

• Can I challenge my friends to find words?

  Yes. Use the Create a Game feature to build your own puzzle: enter 5 words, each exactly 5 letters long, and Squaredle generates a unique shareable link containing your custom grid. Copy the link and send it to friends or family — when they open it, they'll see a puzzle built entirely from the words you chose and can try to find all 5. It's a quick way to set a personal challenge without waiting for the next daily puzzle.

• Can I play in different languages?

  Yes! Squaredle now supports multiple languages, so you can play using the dictionary that suits you best. Whether English is your first language or you're learning a new one, switching dictionaries is a fun way to build vocabulary.

• The game is too easy for me. Can I increase the difficulty?

  Squaredle doesn't have a separate hard-mode toggle, but there are ways to raise the challenge yourself. Skip the hint tools (Tips, First/Last Letter Magic, and Word Hint) and rely only on the grid. Aim to clear the bonus words tab, not just the main answer list — bonus words are typically less common and harder to spot.
